Eternal love reunited....

On Thursday July 18th 2013, my dear sweet grandpa was reunited with his sweetheart!!! I truly believed he passed away from a broken heart!! A lonely heart!!! A heart that couldn't be away from his better half of 68 years... 

In Loving Memory Ray Laurel Fillmore 11/12/1920 - 7/18/2013

  Ray Laurel Fillmore, 92 of Shelley, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peaceful, July 18, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 12, 1920 in Burley, Idaho to Bert and Marvel (Cloward) Fillmore. He was the fifth of eight children. It was while Ray was in Burley, Idaho that he met the love of his wife Nelda Gene Peterson. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity on June 1, 1945.

His childhood years were spent in Springdale, Idaho. He graduated from Burley High School in 1939.  During World War II he served as a Master Sergeant in the USA Army Engineers in the South Pacific. 

Ray worked 43 years in the potato business with JR Simplot, Roger Brothers, and Basic American Foods. Ray retired from the potato business in 1986. After retiring Ray and Nelda spent many winters in Apache Junction, Arizona and St. George, Utah.

  He was a active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and serving in his community as Loin Club President and other service organizations. Ray enjoyed golfing, camping, and spending time in his yard. In his later years he loved watching sporting events, long drives in the country, and helping others in the spud harvest. He was honored as Grand Marshall of the Annual Shelley Spud Day in 2009.

  Ray is survived by his three children, Linda Black of Shelley; Debbie ( Mike) Carter of Shelley; and Ray ( Janet) Fillmore Jr. of South Jordan, Utah. He has 11 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Ray is also survived by his brother Keith Fillmore of Provo, Utah; and sister LaVera ( Louis) Moldenhauer of Mesa, Arizona. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Nelda Gene ( Peterson) Fillmore of 68 years, his parents, and siblings Lucille, LaVonda, Albert, Phil, and Lee.

  Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at the Shelley 3rd/5th Ward Chapel (513 S. Park). The family will meet with friends Sunday July 21, from 6:00 till 7:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 W. Oak) in Shelley and Monday morning at the 9:30 till 10:40 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery with military rights by David B. Bleak Post 93 assisted by Idaho Honor Guard. A special thank you to The Gardens of Rigby, Bonaventure Assisted Living and Solice Hospice for their compassion and kindness shown to our father.

I had a hard time crying cause I know of the reunion taking place with his sweet wife!! I miss my grandparents sooo much!!  I do cry for my mom....her family dynamic has now changed!! 
She is without her mom and dad, but she will always have us...

And we're just enough crazy to make it fun!!

Just like grandma, grandpa was surrounded by his family when he passed away!!! John and I were able to be there!! How blessed we were to be so close to someone so close to the veil!! I know my grandma was there with her arms out stretched!!! Grandpa passed away 6 weeks and 1 day after grandma!! I can only pray that is how it happens with John and I...

Grandpa served in the Army so he was able to have the Military Rights at his funeral!!! It was very a humbling and appreciative moment....

Like I said I am going to miss grandma and grandpa!! They taught me about so much....hard work, family, dedication, church, service, laughter, sacrifice, integrity, kindness, and so much more!!!

They were always so fun to have around!!! Family get togethers won't be the same!!! After grandma passed away my cousin sent me this picture of John and grandma!!!Several years ago we were at the park for a family dinner and I can't remember what grandma said, something about walking and not being able to very well, but all of a sudden John just picked her up and took her to her chair!!! She laughed and laughed...

and even a few times after that she let John carry her around!!!

 And just this last Easter grandpa had a hard time walking so to follow suit, and with the help of my brother, they picked up grandpa...

and delivered him to his car!! 

I will always live in a way as to carry on their legacy of love and to always be someone they can be proud of!! They will forever live on in the stories and memories we share and always in my heart!!

Also today was the funeral of my Uncle Ray's {mom's brother}father-in-law,! So my Uncle has lost both parents and his father-in-law in the last month and a half!! It's been a pretty rough few weeks!!

Grandpa and Darrel were good friends!! 

Darrel passed away from Lou Gerighs disease!!! A very mean disease in my opinion!!! 

But this picture was taken just a week before these sweet men passed away....

Darrel was one of the kindest men you will ever meet in your entire life!! He would go out of his way to wave or shake your hand or come and talk to you!! He was always so supportive of our little family and would tell us all the time what fine young men we had!! He has had several of his own grandsons go on missions but when Elder Russell left he was so happy and so kind and so excited for him and for John and I!!  He knew Elder was going to be a great missionary!! You would've thought he was his grandson!! But that's how he was!! He made you feel loved!! Heaven just became a little more heavenly with these three sweet souls!!! And we all became just a little more watched over with these sweet angels!!

Darrel Ray Peterson

3/10/1930 - 7/21/2013 

  Darrel Ray Peterson passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday evening, the 21^st of July, surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.  He was born March 10, 1930 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Arthur W. and Arzula Blatter Peterson.  His roots were in the farming community of New Sweden where he helped his father farm and where he developed his love for animals.  He owned and operated Darrel’s American for many years.  He finished his career as a spud buyer for GPOD. 

 He was active in civic events where he served as Spud Day Chairman, and sponsored and coached little league baseball for many years.  He was an avid Shelley sports fan and loved to support the community and youth in their activities.

  He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served faithfully whenever called.  He was married on September 21, 1950 to Barbara Jean Christensen and later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

  Everyone knew him for his cheerful disposition and his loving kindness.  He was the most devoted of husbands and respected and revered by his children and grandchildren and was a true and sincere friend.

  His is survived by his wife Barbara, his son Richard (Dixie) Peterson of Perry, UT, his daughters Susan (Louie) Morales of Firth, ID, Janet (Ray) Fillmore of South Jordan, UT; 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; his sister Marsha (Bill) Schmitt of Pocatello, ID, his brother Art (Sandi) Peterson of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 25 at Shelley Third & Fifth Ward Chapel (513 South Park Ave).  Family will visit with friends and relatives on Wednesday, July 24 from 6:00 - 7:30 PM at the Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and 9:30 - 10:45 at the Church. Internment will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
